Pokemon Go Type Chart: What Beats What

Pokemon-Go-Where-to-Find-Charmander

Pokemon Go doesn’t force you to do a whole lot of fighting. Unless you’re trying to take out gyms, the power and type of your Pokemon shouldn’t really concern you that much. However, if you are a die hard player, representing your team, and taking down any opposing gym nearby, then knowing what type to use in battle is key to victory. Even if you’re just trying to train your own team’s gym, knowing what beats what in Pokemon Go is vital.

Luckily there are years of study behind this question, with Pokemon Go largely borrowing the type chart from the main games. If you memorized what beats what already, then you should be set to go for Pokemon Go. For newcomers, or returning fans of the series though, memorizing the vast type combinations that are contained in this game can be daunting. That’s why we’ll explain what beats what in Pokemon Go.

One important thing to keep in mind is that Pokemon Go minimizes the importance of Pokemon types significantly. What would have done double or half damage in the regular games, instead does 1.2 or 0.8 damage respectively. Also, moves that used to be totally ineffective, such as electric attacks on ground type Pokemon, have now simply become the less effective alternative. Still, having a type advantage can help swing the battle, even if the opposing Pokemon has a higher CP than yours.

As far as a type chart is concerned, there are tons available, but this is the best that I’ve seen so far. It’s main advantage is that it is easy to read on a mobile phone, and is very easy to understand. Simply look up the type you are about to face and find out its strengths and weaknesses. You can then choose based around this. For example, if you’re about to attack a Vaporeon, then you might want to use an electric type Pokemon, which will get 1.2x damage and take normal damage. Alternatively you could go in with a grass type Pokemon which will both deal extra damage, and take less from the water attacks.

This is another decent type chart for Pokemon Go, and this is one that was created specifically for the mobile game. Use whichever one of these is best for you and you should become much better at choosing what Pokemon to use in your gym attacks. There are tons of good Pokemon Go type charts out there though, so if you have found a better one be sure to share it in the comments below.
